Winding down!

Posted by Administrator on September 29th, 2006

Well, Interbike is winding down. I have a couple of more people to speak with to wrap things up. This place is amazing! You can’t possibly take it all in even in 3 days. I’ve got quite a few interviews so I’ll be busy editting for a couple of days.

Having media credentials has been great! A personal highlight for me? Chatting with Phil Liggett about the evil’s of decaf in the media booth. They put on a decent spread of fruit, muffins, and cinnamon rolls for breakfast for the media guys.

I’m catching the red-eye back. I think Walt is on the same plane as me. Tomorrow’s agenda is likely to be sleep!

Interbike!

Posted by Administrator on September 27th, 2006

So I’m dreadfully late on a show I know. I’m at Interbike! Vegas! What can I say? This place is the mad note! Interviews are coming! I’ve got some cool stuff from Evomo, Ventana, and more! Tinker and I comiserated over the crossing of Kansas, not on tape but it was fun. Tomorrow I’ll hit the floor for more interviews and advocacy with SORBA. Big thanks to Tom, Jay, Robin, and Walt for showing me around and more importantly introducing me to some of the cool people in the industry!

Leo Laporte Suggests Changing “Podcast” To “Netcast”

Posted by Administrator on September 23rd, 2006

Leo Laporte hosts some of the most popular podcasts on the Net. His concern is that Apple’s lawyers are agressively pursuing sites like “Podcast Ready” and others who use the term “pod” in their name and that such pursuits could include podcasts in general at some point. As a result, he’s proposing a name change from “podcast” to “netcast.” This mitigates the litigation problem and solves a problem I often have with potential listeners, explaining that you don’t need an iPod to listen to a podcast. Check out Leo’s points
here!

The use of the word “pod” shouldn’t be enough to cause such confusion with iPod. “Pod” supposedly stands for “Portable On Demand.” However, public perception plays such a key role here that associations get made in the minds of consumers perpetuating this confusion. Maybe it is time for a name change. We’ll just have to see if its time to buy new signs!
